“The Better Me”
Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself
First and foremost you must be passionate when it comes to your own health and well being before you can give it to others. Having a focus mind and a focus heart to know that everybody has a story, everybody is unique, and everybody is their own person with a different mindset and with a different situation. In spirituality you have to know that there is a higher power or God and having that faith and acknowledge that we all are on earth for a purpose. Know your place in life and what’s in your heart before you can give it to someone. Physically you must be fit and healthy by eating right, working out right, get plenty of rest yourself before you can teach it to someone. When I fist enter this class I was not aware of how to keep my busy mind still it would wonder off into things I had to do or why am I not doing this with my life or why am I stuck or why did my marriage failed. So I had to get my busy mind into what I call my fantasy world a place where I take my mind when I just want good things happening to me like the best job or having lots of money, beautiful house, nice cars, my own office, where I’m a Spiritual coach, married to my best friend, and just enjoying my girls and my new life. So now that I know how to get my busy mind still I can now enjoy doing meditation daily, it makes me feel free and I love that. Spiritual I still taking my walk with God and reading my devotions daily and now I’m praying and talking more to people, and it really feels good to do that. I post daily quotes and devotions on my face book page, feel free to add me (Shawna Banks McLean). Physical I still new improvement there’s always room for that in every aspect of my life. I lost 50 lbs a few months back because I was so stressed and I lost it too fast but it did feel really good to have that weight off, so now I’m doing it the right way trying to eat right, yes I said trying to (smile) it’s really hard. I was doing taebo every day but I have a bad knee so now I’m just walking every day for about an hour or so. I have high blood pressure so it’s very important for me to keep my weight down and get right. I will get better and do better with progression and not perfection.
II Assessment:
How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically? I have assessed my health in each domain first by giving myself the freedom to relax and get to know where I’m at right now to where I want to be at this moment and know where I’m going, Psychologically, Spiritually and Physically. I write in a journal now at first I didn’t because I felt that it was useless and I wasn’t going to follow through but now my mind, body, and spirit is thinking differently and I feel blessed and proud of myself to have come so far in my life I’m not where I used to be mentally or spiritually. When I started this class I was at a 5 Spiritually, at a 6 Psychologically, and 5 Physically and now I would say Spiritually I’m at 8 and Physically 7 and Psychologically 9 so I have grown and I will continued to grow.
III Goal development:
List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual. The only goal I can honestly said that I have set for myself is that I will continued to grow in each area of my life such as get to my ideal weight that is to lose my weight. Mentally I will set a goal for myself to complete my BS and continued on to my Masters and I will open a Women’s Shelter to serve battered women and their Children. I will continue to pray and talk to women and if God leads me to be a Spiritual Coach or Leader I will obey and do so. Spiritually I will meditate, pray, continue in my fantasy world to free my mind and be the woman that God has planned me to be. I will also continue to write in my journal.
IV Practices for personal health:
What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, I will continue to walk daily and Taebo daily along with my daughter and boyfriend and if time permits I will cook healthy meals every night not just for myself but for my family. A better health makes a better me. I will keep my mind free from what I didn’t do years earlier or why I didn’t go to school before now or why did I get married to an abusive man and stayed with him for so long. I will keep my mind free from negative thoughts and away from negative people. I only keep positive people in my life and I know that I can’t change people they have to change for themselves. I have learned to think with my heart and not with my mind. I have learned that everybody got a story and a smile or a hug goes a long way. Let go and let God. Spiritually my walk with God is a journey that I am so blessed to be taking and that God does not put on us no more then what we can handle. I will continue to pray, listen to my Gospel, read my devotions daily and show loving kindness to all mankind even if its not giving back to me.

Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.
V Commitment:
How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness? I will continue to write in my journal and try not to fall back and if I do I will regain my strength and get back on track. I know how I’m feeling when I stay focus so it won’t be to hard to get back up. I will set an alarm on my cell or my boyfriend’s mouth (smile) telling me alright it’s time to workout or pray or meditate do whatever it takes to get your mind focus on the positive and do what God has plan for you to do. Life’s a wonderful journey and we can break or be strong but the world’s going to go on even if we’re not ready for whatever, so I would rather be strong, be focus, be a better me, love me, love people, and do my best and know that my best is all I can give.

Ms Banks,
ReplyDeleteI loved your personal plan. You presented it in a clear, concise way and yet with such honesty and realness. I truly enjoyed reading what you wrote from your heart. Thank you for the personal sharing. You have come so far! The new ideas you gave me or reminders were the way you said how it is important to be passionate about our health. I think I take that for granted and would like to start being "passionate" about it. I also really like your visualization practice of your fantasy world. I do believe strongly in if we set our intentions with no doubt, they do happen! I love your intentions for yourself. I am going to try that in my life - how fun to set my fantasty's as becoming stories for my life. You did your project in a very similar lay-out as I did. I think you laid it out in a very clear way. I like your ideas and am going to try them out. I don't know what I am going to do yet so I can't say if these ideas with help any clientele but I am going to share the ideas with some close friends.
Best to you and keep dreaming those dreams.

It really seems that you have performed a clear evaluation of yourself and made the arrangements to continue with a plan to achieve a better life. I thoroughly enjoyed how you were able to clearly identify the difficulties within each aspect of life and the thought process you took to figure out a way to improve the situation. You should applaud yourself on the improvements that you have made so far. I have full faith that you will be able to continue these practices in your life and reach even higher levels of health and well being. Congratulations...
ReplyDeleteShawna,
ReplyDeleteI am the same way when it came to keeping a journal. I kept a journal for a long time while at the end of elementary school, into middle school and stopped about half-way through high school. I have recently wanted to start up a journal again and it's mostly because I remember when I did keep a journal - how much more organized in my life and released from the daily emotional snags and upsets that occurred. I like the goals you have set for yourself and I wish you the best of luck!
~Namaste~

Ms. Banks,
ReplyDeleteI have to say I read your unit 9 a few times because each time I found another part that spoke to me. You acknowledge that you have come a long way in this class and you have grown and developed with the information you have acquired. In addition you have a thought out plan as to how to proceed forward and you have a passion and determination to get there. Your faith along with what sounds like a great support system will help you on your journey. I too had a journal, I gave it up for a while but I remember it was so helpful I will be starting it again, but this time on my laptop, much easier. Sounds like you are on the path toward success. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself. I wish you happiness and health.
